Sliding Sands Trail

Keonehe'ehe'e

Maui

Based on my expertise, Sliding Sands Trail (also known as Keoneheʻeheʻe Trail) is a challenging but rewarding hike within Haleakala National Park. It descends dramatically into the volcanic crater, offering surreal landscapes and unique geological formations.

  • Difficulty: strenuous
  • Distance: 11.2 miles
  • Elevation gain: 2795 ft
  • Time: 4-6 hours
  • Permits: Permits are required for overnight camping in the crater. These can be obtained online at Recreation.gov. Day hiking does not require a permit, but entrance fees to the National Park apply.
